In August 2017, EnerTek designed and installed a 15 kW off grid solar PV-battery-diesel system to power critical loads in the electrical substation Puntayacu located in San Ramon, Chanchamayo.

The solar PV and battery storage system is designed to cover all the substation’s electrical loads, with the diesel generator serving as a backup in the case of cloudy weather or emergency loads. The system supplies energy 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, powering critical electrical loads including motors, isolating switches and tripping coils. The installation also included energy efficiency improvements such as LED floodlighting and indoor LED tubes to reduce peak loads and daily energy consumption.

The system minimizes environmental impacts and generates significant diesel fuel savings, as the generator is only needed on rainy days or in emergencies. It also requires minimal maintenance; the solar panels need to be wiped down once a week.

The project has a lifetime of 25 years, with a battery replacement recommended after 12 years.
